The Silent Scream (1986, Rated PG-13)

A new superhero has emerged to clean up the mean streets. This young crime fighter gives "stealth" a whole new meaning...for he is the one they call...
The Silent Scream.

Extreme descriptioncore follows:

The bass was created by feeding the sine wave into a Phase Distortion effect and combining overtones to get six different variations:
Fundamental (f)
(f) + 5th
(f) + 5th + Octave
(f) + 5th + Octave + 5th
(f) + 5th + Octave + 5th + 2Octave
(f) + 5th + Octave + 5th + 2Octave + 5th

By subdividing the waveform into perfect 5ths and octaves, I was able to achieve the effect of Phase Modulation synthesis. I put these six variations into the EXS24 sampler and mapped them to six velocity layers so that the sound increases in intensity as you play louder notes. This was a very realistic approximation of a classic DX7 patch.

The electric piano sound was created by taking one of the Phase Distortion samples and "chip looping" it to get a sawtooth type of sound. The particular DC characteristics of the resulting waveform gave it a little pop on the attack, sounding very close to an RMI Electra-Piano. I further replicated this by adding a random pitch deviation.

The organ sound was basically the electric piano sound with an organ envelope, running through a MXR Phase 100 and Roland JC-120 chorus amp, very similar to the way Tony Banks from Genesis got his organ sounds in the late 70s.

The synth sounds were just convolutions of the organ sound running through analog synth-style 24dB/oct filters.

The guitar lead sound was the main synth lead (with less detune and a sharper attack) run through Amplitube 3's Marshall amp model.

The drums were cut up and sliced and diced and some were combined with sine waves to add some bottom end thump. Then I ran them through some brutal 1176LN compression a gated reverb to get that brutal 80s Phil Collins sound.
